The main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has offered explanation on why the NDC was missing at the weekend Congress by governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) saying it’s still mourning the demise of the former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur who passed away a week ago.

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho debunked claims of any ill-will towards the ruling party, as was being speculated in sections of the media.

The main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) had no official representation at the mammoth National Delegates Conference held in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

Several opposition parties including the Convention People’s Party(CPP), Progressive People’s Party(PPP), People’s National Convention (PNC), the Independent People’s Party(IPP) and a host of other smaller opposition parties were at the Conference to lend their support to the governing party(NPP).

As has been the order in such conferences, political parties mounted the podium to give their solidarity messages to the host party, but the main opposition NDC was missing in action when the moment came for an NDC rep to do that on behalf of the party.

There were speculations that the development was largely as a sign of protest by the NDC against the removal of the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.

But the unusual absence of the NDC, according to the Master of Ceremony(MC) at the event could perhaps be as a result of the lose of the former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur who passed away recently.

In a reaction to the development on Anopa kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday, Anyidoho noted that although the NPP leadership invited the NDC, his party is still in a state of shock and mourning the death of the former VEEP, which he claimed was the reasons for their absence at the NPP event.

“It was just Friday that we had the One week observation for the late VEEP, and the long and short of it all is that we’re still mourning and our flags are still flying at half mast, so as the national flag. And so that is the reason why we couldn’t show up at the NPP congress and nothing else. We don’t have anything against NPP”.
