The Vigilante Bill currently before Parliament for approval has suffered a setback because stakeholders are not interested in its implementation, Political Scientist with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng has observed.

“The back and forth is expected because politicians are not interested”, he spoke on Kumasi-based local station in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

“Society is pressuring NPP and NDC hence, lack of wherewithal to disband them” Dr. Amakye Boateng added

Stakeholders at a recent public forum called for efforts to be made to nib the threat of vigilantism in the bud to ensure peace before, during and after the 2020 general election.

The forum cautioned the nation not to live under the illusion that there had been peace in previous elections, stressing that vigilantism was gradually becoming a canker in the nation’s political environment.

Speaking to the latest development, Dr. Amakye Boateng explained that since politician are behind the formation of such illegal groups, they appear not interested to take the bull by their horn.

“They are not interested to disband them because they are benefiting from these vigilante groups”, he pointed out to host of ‘Kro Yimu Nsem, political talk show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
