Some Constituency Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are scheming to remove their Members of Parliament (MPs) even before the party opens nomination for interested members sometime in the future.
“It does appear in many constituencies across the length and breadth of this country some members of constituency executives have one problem or other against their Member of Parliament (MP)”, Majority Leader and lawmaker for Suame Constituency in Kumasi revealed.
“Eight months into the inauguration of Members of Parliament, I am aware that in the backyard of many MPs including even first-time ladies legislators some NPP members have started conspiring to remove these MPs”, Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu alleged.
“We should reflect and they should pause to consider the repercussions and think of the party in the future elections”, he admonished at this year’s National Delegates’ Conference held in Cape Coast on Saturday.
According to the Suame lawmaker who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the behaviour and conduct of such people is likely to take government into opposition if not stopped.
“That is why my appeal to you is unity. …if we want to retain power, unity is what we should focus”
He also warned government officials against corrupt practice which he believes is the reason Ghanaians voted the past National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
“The then government lost the fight against corruption that is why a Deputy Minister could declare boldly that at least she wanted to make one million dollars”, Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu emphasized.
