A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team, Henry Osei Akoto, has chided the government over its failure to settle its debt with the West African Examination Council (WAEC), in order to allow it release examination results.

He stated that previous governments did not have issues with settling financial contracts with WAEC to facilitate the conduct of examinations for Senior High School and Junior High School students until now.

The NDC communicator further criticised the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government for owing institutions that provide essential services to the nation, putting beneficiaries at risk.

“Before Akufo-Addo came to power, no Ghanaian knew the government pays WAEC. Nobody even cared about the subject because it was never an issue.

"Akufo-Addo’s government owed every single service provider, even the ones you never imagined, it is crazy,” Osei Akoto wrote on X.

His comments on the matter come after WAEC announced that it has been unable to process this 2024 WASSCE results owing to funding constraints and logistical challenges.

The government owes the examination body over GH¢100 million in debts, which has hampered its capacity to release the results of about 460,000 students nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, assured the public that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be released within the coming week (the week of December 29th).

Dr. Adutwum, who was speaking to reporters following a working visit to WAEC, said the examination institution was working during the festivities to get the results out by December 29, 2024.
