In 1988, a photograph captured the late former president, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, and Captain Kojo Tsikata at a government guest house in Accra, along with Elaine Robnett Moore, an American who was working in Ghana.
The three of them were captured beaming with smiles, enjoying what appeared to be a heartfelt moment.
Elaine Moore was among the many American expatriates working in Ghana during the Rawlings era.
Ghana and America have a longstanding bilateral relationship dating back to the pre-colonial era.
This snapshot shared by Adeyinka Makinde via YouTube reflects the close connections between Ghana's leadership and international collaborators during that era, highlighting a period of active engagement and exchange between Ghana and foreign professionals involved in the country's development.
Additionally, Captain Kojo Tsikata and Jerry John Rawlings have been close allies since their army days under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime.
The late retired army captain was a controversial and influential figure in Ghana's politics.
Prior to his death in 2021, Captain Tsikata served as the former head of national security and intelligence under the PNDC regime.
During his time as an army officer, he survived two death sentences, after allegations of coup attempts and murder were levelled against him.
In an old footage available to GhanaWeb, Captain Kojo Tsikata recalled the pain he endured from the many allegations made against him.
According to him, in most of the allegations, he was not even allowed to defend himself.
