A farmer has been severely injured at New Juaben during the Farmers’ Day celebration in the Eastern Region following mad rush for cutlass.
According to Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah, the farmer Sisi Mansah suffered deep cutlass wound on the leg when incensed farmers attacked organizers of the programme who attempted to exchange cutlass for foodstuff exhibited at the event.
The 60-year-old was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The angry farmers accused the organizers of the Farmers’ Day celebration of fleecing them in an attempt to give them a cutlass each for their expensive foodstuff. The decision angered the farmers who rushed on a Kia Truck with registration number GN 3324 -12 belonging to the New Juaben Municipal Assembly which contained the cutlasses.
The melee resulted in injuries as the police were not available to maintain law and order.
Officials had to escape to avoid incurring the wrath of the incensed farmers.
