Public opinion, social media cannot remove Prof Obiri Danso - Management defends VC

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has hit back at those calling for his resignation following the riot on the school’s campus on Monday. This was through a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the University.

According to him, the VC was appointed through a legal process, and only that process, not anything else will remove him from, reacting to social media calls for his sack.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr Kwame Yeboah, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso has not nursed any thought of quitting his position taking into account due process was followed before his appointment.

On Tuesday, there were reports on social and mainstream media seeking to suggest he had resigned following violent protestations by students the previous day that saw the destruction of both private and public property by the aggrieved students.

But Kwame Yeboah in response to the claims said it was a fiction of the imagination of some people to think the Vice-Chancellor will resign when due processes were followed in appointing him in the first place.

According to him, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso is still at post discharging his duties as expected of him in consonance with the status of the university adding that he passed through due processes before occupying that position, the necessary procedures should be followed.

“It should be disregarded. It is a figment of somebody’s imagination. I am sure you just saw him. We just returned. He has not resigned. The Vice-Chancellor was selected through a process and certainly, we have to leave that to the process that brought him to the office. As we speak now, he has not even thought of that,” he stated.

On Tuesday, Stephen Kwaku Asare a US-based legal practitioner and accounting professor popularly known on Facebook as Kwaku Azar demanded that heads must roll at KNUST following last Monday’s violence.

He blamed the whole problem to failed leadership wants the Vice-Chancellor and the Minister of State in Charge of tertiary education to axed.
