The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked Muslims across the country to pray for the peace of the country as they begin the mandatory 30-day fasting and prayers today, Monday, 6 May 2019.
In a goodwill message to all Muslims, the NDC said: “The National Democratic Congress wishes our Muslim brothers and sisters a blessed month of Ramadan. Ramadan Kareem!
“Ramadan is a time when Muslims believe the Holy Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. It is also a time to deeply reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that come with faith. It is a time for Muslims to seek forgiveness and forgive one another. It is a shared responsibility Muslims owe to themselves and to God.
“The month of Ramadan is the time to rededicate to the ideals of tolerance, patience, truthfulness, kindness, love, for peace and justice that we all share.
“In this holy month of Ramadan, remember to say a prayer for peace, security and progress for our dear country.
“We wish you the favours and blessings that come with Ramadan. Ramadan Kareem. Salaam.”
Ramadan is a compulsory tenet of Islam and adherents are encouraged to observe it except for those who have special medical conditions that may prevent them.
Over 1.8 billion Muslims across the world are expected to embark on this year’s fast – a pillar of Islam.
