The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is battle-ready for this year’s general elections, the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has said, adding that the NDC will launch its manifesto in Sunyani in two weeks’ time.

Mr Nketiah also said the NDC was not scared about its opponents stealing ideas from its campaign document once it is launched.

He said were the polls to be held in November rather than the usual December 7 date, as had earlier been proposed by the Electoral Commission, the NDC would still have won because “we are November-December champions.”

Speaking at the party’s campaign launch in Cape Coast in the Central Region on Sunday, 14 August, General Mosquito, as Mr Asiedu Nketiah is known in political circles, said: “The NDC scored a very important victory when we decided to expand our decision-making structures and allow every card-bearing member of the NDC to participate in the choice of our parliamentary and presidential candidates.

“This is unprecedented in Ghana and I believe in Africa as well.”

The NDC is going into the polls with President John Mahama as its flag bearer. The party is aiming to win a second term in office with Mr Mahama as leader. Mr Mahama’s main opponent in the race is Nana Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party.

Responding to critics who say the party has launched its campaign without a manifesto, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said: “We have never launched our manifesto together with our campaign.” He said the NDC is not scared about its opponents stealing ideas from its manifesto. “…We are not scared if they want to take our whole manifesto.”
