A policeman, accompanied by three Community Police Assistants (CPAs), were on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, subjected to severe beatings in an attempt to arrest a suspect at Akrofuom near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The security officers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Obuasi Government Hospital, with one officer reportedly in critical condition.
According to information gathered by MyNewsGh.com, a 62-year-old man had earlier reported a case of threat of harm by the suspect, identified as Sibuba, to the police. The complainant was leading the officers to the suspect's residence near the District Chief Executive's (DCE’s) bungalow.
Upon arriving at the suspect's house, the complainant identified Sibuba to the police for arrest. However, the suspect pleaded with the officers to allow him to inform his family about his arrest and was permitted to make a phone call.
Moments later, a mob of approximately 50 individuals armed with various life-threatening objects attacked the officers and beat them mercilessly. The attackers also seized an AK-47 rifle from the policeman and abandoned the officers in a nearby bush, leaving them for dead.
The injured officers managed to call for reinforcements and were subsequently rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital, where they are currently being treated. Meanwhile, the AK-47 rifle has been recovered, and the police are actively pursuing the suspect and his accomplices.
