Executive Director of Legal Assistance Network, Lawyer Irene Aborchie Nyahe have called on women to be bold and challenge the bias and gender inequality in our societies.

Speaking at a symposium which was held at the Nungua Senior High School on Wednesday, 8th March, 2017 to mark the celebration of international women’s day, the human rights lawyer bemoaned how women have been maltreated and abused in Ghana and all over the world.

She said it’s about time women became bold and campaigned against violence because some men have taken delight in humiliating and abusing women.

She urged students especially young girls at the Nungua Senior High School not to hesitate in reporting their teachers , parents, friends etc to the police or any legal firm if they find themselves been abused by such persons regardless of the persons position.

She said “ in view of this the Legal Assistance Network is today launching a human right club here in this school to help educate the young ones to eradicate violence and other uncalled practices to help achieve our aim towards nation building and gender equality.

Lawyer Eleanor Barnes Botwhey also revealed that research conducted by her indicates that most women tend to engineer the practice of early child marriages.

She therefore cautioned them to stop such practices now or face legal actions.

Meanwhile head girl of Nungua Senior High School, Juanita Serwaa Ayabeng expressed her joy at the establishment of the human right club at their school and also advised her colleagues to resist the temptation of dating because one can become pregnant at that tender age which will ruin their future.

She also appealed to government to construct more classrooms for them because they are increasingly becoming congested in their classrooms.
