The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has appealed to Ghanaian business community in Canada and elsewhere across Europe to tap into government's flagship One District One Factory project.
The NPP Chairman says Ghanaians living abroad have huge opportunity to take advantage of the business-friendly policy which has been outlined in the 2017 budget in order to contribute to the development of the country.
According to him, the One District One Factory is one such initiative which successful Ghanaian businessmen can invest as a way of ensuring the development of the country's economy.
Chairman Wontumi, who was speaking at a special ceremony in Ontario, Canada to commemorate the 60th Anniversary Celebration of Ghana, suggested to Ghanaians in the North American to consider adopting some of the districts and help establish factories there.
Chairman Wontumi opined that interested Ghanaians can come together and form a business consortium and then adopt one or two districts for the establishment of the factories.
He said by so doing, it will help create jobs and reduce the pressure that relatives in Ghana put on them in terms of remittances, whilst at the same helping to stem the arming rate of deaths being recorded on the sea as a result of many youths stowing away to Europe is minimized.
"I want to urge you successful Ghanaians here to come home and invest in the economy; you can take advantage of the business friendly budget and invest to create jobs for the youth. The One District One Factory for instance is a policy you can buy into.
The celebration, which was organized by the Ghanaian community in Canada, was also attended by a number of political bigwigs including the MP for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
