Woyome’s case: AG must be probed – Ace Ankomah

Private legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah wants the Attorney General (AG), Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong to be probed in her failure to get good judgment in the state’s appeal against the High Court’s acquittal and discharge of businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

He said the AG ought to be blamed for selectively filing an application that omitted four key witnesses[Lawyers] including the then Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General and two high-ranking lawyers in the AG’s Department and the Ministry of Finance.

“If we wanted to do a good job, we could have joined the four Lawyers to the suit including Woyome that they all conspired or acted together with a common purpose to defraud the state. What is more shocking is that we couldn’t even call them as witnesses when indeed you have cited the AG as being misled by Woyome. How can you secure a conviction on this basis” Ace questioned on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM on Friday.

Ace insisted that the AG’s inability to attach such key witnesses to the suit whose accounts he said could have varied the case speaks to the dishonesty of the AG in the matter, and hence must be made to answer certain questions.

A three-member Court of Appeal Justices Thursday dismissed an appeal by the state seeking criminal charges against businessman, Alfred Woyome in the protracted case regarding the GHC51 million judgment debt payment.

The court agreed with the ruling by Justice Ajet Nassam on 12th March 2015 in which the embattled self-acclaimed financier of the ruling party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) was acquitted and discharged unconditionally on all two charges, causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense.

The appellate court gave the ruling after the state failed to prove its case.
