PURPORTED CABINET RE-SHUFFLE – KUFUOR IN A FIX!
- TO MERGE KEY MINISTRIES

Every member of cabinet is reported to be jittery, wondering what fate has in store for him or her, given the perceived unpredictability of the President. Apparently he has held back for now because of certain crucial decisions that he has to take with regard to the reshuffle.

This paper says the President intends to merge certain key ministries to conform with his earlier campaign promise of reducing cabinet to a smaller size, although he has earlier confessed at a Castle press conference that with the magnitude of the problem of governance, he would have preferred more ministries.

The President’s first dilemma is whether to restore the post of the former Interior Minister, Alhaji Yakubu Malik Alhassan, who resigned his position in the wake of the Yendi carnage, which claimed the life of the Overload of Dagbon Traditional Area, Ya Na Yakubu Andani.

The other option, which the President is considering, is whether to merge the Ministries of Defence and Interior and place it under one minister with two deputies. The later proposition, Castle sources have hinted if informed by the excellent manner that the substantive Defence Minister, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor has handled the Interior portfolio alongside the substantive portfolio.

Another area that the President is considering is the Ministries of Tourism and Private Sector Development, which are currently under the minister for Private Sector Development, Kwamena Bartels.

Many names have come out but Bartels is touted as the man likely to head the proposed merger of the two ministries. But the shocking name that has emerged for the proposed Ministry is that of the former Minister for Tourism in the NDC administration, Mike Afedi Gizo.
