The Alumni of Unity Hall, popularly called Conti, which is one of the six traditional halls of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), says it has removed Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a member of Conti Alumni.

Lawyer George Tetteh Wayo, who is the spokesperson of the Conti Alumni, told Kasapa 102.5 Fm that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the Vice-Chancellor have together “betrayed the hall that nurtured them to the highest level,” hence the decision to cut ties with the two individuals.

“They are barred from priding themselves anywhere as Conti Alumnus because for instance if any Alumnus of Unity hall is reported to be an Armed robber in the public space, the Hall will disassociate itself from that individual, so is the same way here. They have stabbed Conti Hall in the back.”

This comes on the heels of a statement by the Education Minister petitioning the governing council of KNUST, which is chaired by the Asantehene, to reconsider maintaining Katanga Hall as an all-male hall.

The statement however, snubbed Conti which was also converted to a mixed hall last year, a decision that has irked fellows associated with the Unity Hall.

Wayo commenting on the impasse on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm said Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo is only trying to play on their minds, insisting they will resist every move to sideline Conti in the reinstatement.

“They feel that Unity Hall guys are too gentle and will not disturb the peace of the University. It took just about 27 Katangees for them to change their minds on them. Because we’ve not been on rampage, they’re taking us for ladies. As for us we’re in the thousands. We’re more than the Katangees. On a normal day on the KNUST campus, the Katangees and the Continentals we know each other; We all know who we are. We are not ladies so they shouldn’t tempt us.” Wayo told host Kweku Owusu Adjei.

Both Unity and Katanga were all-male Halls until a recent decision by the school authorities to convert them into a mixed Hall in order to promote Maths and Science studies among female students.

The conversion which is being resisted by the students of the hall is before a court and the Asantehene for intervention.
