The chiefs on behalf of Otumfuor are right to express their indignation. However, they should vent the indignation within context; given that the Otumfour has once made the statement that some of his chiefs are involved in the sale of land for illegal mining. So the chiefs should not be behaving like they are innocent of the allegation by Maurice Ampaw. Finally, this matter raises legitimate questions about freedom speech and the extent of chiefs’ power to ban people.

This NPP should not forget the role the Chiefs of Asanteman under the leadership of The Late Nana Bafuor Akoto played in establishing The NLM which formed the main Vanguard of the then UP. Unfortunately it looks like this NPP has been hijacked by certain characters which has rendered the very Decent and well meaning members rather politically impotent. The party should not try to commit sucide.

Please remember Ghana which includes the Asante Region has a National Parliament which passes laws. In as much as I respect the Ashantehene,he really does not have any powers to make any laws.Neither can he banish anyone from any part of his region.Not even the President can banish anyone from any part of the country. Otumfour is a tradional leader just like any other. Just ask yourself why he has not been able to ban galamsey in his area of influence.
Let us stop all the unnecessary fancy talks and face reality.

The Porcupine has finally rediscovered it‘s quills and it is beginning to use it. The Wontumi saga is a classic example of unchecked power and the dangers it can bring to a community. Maurice Ampaw is another unfortunate sad ranting of a person who is supposed to know better. By his own admission chiefs have been destooled for the very crimes he was complaining about so why embellish a whole institution. You have them by the tails don‘t turn them loose.
This brings is to the second most important issue facing most communities in the Ashanti region. That is the desecration of the water bodies of which Wontumi is the kinpin. Responsible mining should be encouraged or such activities should be shut down.
On the question of shutting down Wontumi TV/Radio, l would suggest a boycott. Let‘s hit him in the pocket and see how long Maurice Ampaw can stay loyal to Wontumi.
Ashanti region and Kumasi in particular has had some very successful business men/women but nothing in the likes of Wontumi. As for lawyers Ashanti can boast of numerous and Maurice Ampaw does not come close. Let The Porcupine use it‘s Quills.
