He thought he was showing bravery but he showed stupidity. Did he know the nature of his job and the Code of Ethics that governs it. He will always regret this day. He may be demoted and transferred to a very unwelcome region if he is lucky. If he is fired, we shall welcome him to the Association of the Unemployed. Fools die many times before their deaths. First, the man was clearly under the influence big and said things he shouldn't have said openly as a public servant, even though he wasn't on duty and in uniform. He mispoke under the influence. I'd rate what he said as gross misconduct, meriting demotion if not outright dismissal. His current detention though is unwarranted and unjustified. It's exactly what ajn overzealous Police force under Nkrumah or JJ would have done to a civil servant who spoke out like that. His offence doesn't merit that.

Now, you have to go through the Parliamentary hansards during the Nkrumah era in order to know that, indeed, there were critical comments against Nkrumah. Even Gbedema went to Parliament to denounce Nkrumah before fleeing into exile to avoid arrest, as his CIA conections were becoming known.

Under JJ during the initial years of the NDC, very biting, libellous things were being published by the newspapers. But, these were not things being written by public officials, so they got away with murder. The US Secretary of State, Chester Crocker, visited Ghana and declared that there was no libel laws in Ghana. The govt responded by invoking the Criminal libel law against culprits. There was also the "shitology" incidence carried out by NDC activists.

Anyway, what's your point? That the Akufo Addo regime is more tolerant of free speech? Give us a break! They should free the man. Punish him, dismiss him, whatever, but what he said doesn't amount to detention.

They think it’s some monarchy, where some “family” owns the land, the resources and the people their subjects. That cop was very smart in quoting the president who advised Ghanaians “to be citizens and not spectators!” So, in a democracy, one in which the president this man is addressing and craves and audience to do same face to face, where lies the problem if a cop says that he’s disappointed in the friends and family governance and incompetence he sees? If we were a smart people, and to show our tolerance level for the views of citizens, we’d have national security or whoever advises the president on such matters to quickly give this man audience, and see if he might be bold to address him on such matters, especially when it’s obvious he’s not gotten some Dutch courage for effect! But, no, we live in a place where foolishness rules the hearts of men, so, even when there’s a perfect opportunity to be the bigger man, pompous idiots don’t see it: all they care about is bruised egos! Ghana is a democracy! If anyone cannot stand being criticized by those who see their so-called good governance as the worst thing that ever happened to them, let them not ask for public office! It’s not the responsibility of citizens to like what their elected representatives do or even acknowledge their efforts; but it’s the responsibility of elected representatives to satisfy the needs and wants of their constituents! That’s the price they pay for asking to lead people in a democratic country: they’d get battered by reasonable people who have relatively better or other expectations. It’s a thankless job! If you can’t stand that sort of scrutiny or criticism then you have no business serving the people.

A civil servant is not allowed to express his personal views on public policy or superiors without repercussions. If amounting to gross misconduct, as clearly this case is, dismissal is the utmost consequence. Being put on suspension is just the first step, but being arrested and detained is unjustified. On what charges? Being drunk when off duty and mouthing criticism of the government? Looks like he was provoked by someone.

When that Police officer was caught on video dissing and plotting against the IGP, was even the interdiction not reversed? I think that should NOT have been the case. It undermines discipline in the Police Service. Well, the chickens of the constant bastardisation of the state institutions by this Akufo Addo cum Bawumai regime are coming home to roost.

The man spoke the truth but he's not allowed to speak publicly. Perhaps, more Ghanaians should get drunk and get Dutch courage to speak the truth. Ha! ha! ha! The NPP people are livid with anger. They should go and get drunk and face the truth about this dismal regime of crooks we have in Ghana!
