The NPP Government is a disgrace. Knowing that they want to use the Military to cheat in the elections, they are preparing Ghanaians to expect soldiers on the street during 2024 elections.

In every developed democracy, Soldiers really do not take part in the security of any democratic elections. The officer was right. The Police are responsible. The training of Soldiers are different from the Police. The Military are trained to defend the territorial integrity of a country and go to war. The Police are trained for internal security.
In Uncle Sam’s country, Soldiers who come out of the Military to join the Police are given special training on how to deal with civilians. The Military is taken out of them. We have High School and University Police who were former Military Officers. The security officers at some malls were former Military officers.
In the case of Ghana where so many people are blinded by partisan politics and can become violent during elections, the Military would be needed when the Police, Prisons and Fire Personnel are overwhelmed and attacked by disappointed voters. There are some places in Ghana that are so violent and volatile that Armed Forces Officers will be needed. Such a place like Bawku and parts of Tamale need Armed Military Personnel before, during, and after the elections to maintain peace there. Some of my people up there can be violent on the least disagreement or provocation.
The Military should always be armed on stand by to maintain peace and order during the elections period. This should include campaign at certain areas.

My brother, you have said it all. I don't know what is pushing the Police to issue this unprecedented Press Release to humiliate one of their own. Is it not true that election security is the 'baby ' of the Police? Is it not true that Internal Security is the exclusive responsibility of the Police? Is it not true the Ghana Army is only invited to intervene when the Police is overwhelmed? Is it not true that during the recent District Assembly Elections, there was no military involvement because the Police were in control and there was no need for the military?
What earth-shattering message did DCOP Prince Waabu communicate which is at variance with Police operational practice to warrant a press release to humiliate and intimidate him. IGP, please moderate your grandstanding and populist actions and focus on policing Ghana!!

@Thomas, your comparison is a bit simplistic and problematic. Nobody's advocating for military presence in elections. But I think your premises for saying so are quite shaky. The European country you've lived in for 25 years is most likely not to have suffered the misfortune of being ruled by military dictators. On the other hand, Ghana is in her 4th Republic. You can see clearly that you're comparing apples and oranges. If the situation warrants it, don't be surprised to see our military involved in security matters during elections in Ghana. It's called pragmatism.

Even if it is wrong for the Army to get involved in elections, was he chosen by the Police Service to say it,? There is too much INDISCIPLINE in the Police Service. The other day, one stupid policeman was insulting the President. The sad thing is that some ANIMALS will support this nonsense because they hate NPP govt. If the NDC were in power and a policeman said this on his own, would they support him? We are destroying Ghana with this attitude.

The police service must be sensitive to the image and respect of its officers. If they want to discipline a high ranking official, should they announce it in the media? The rank of the officer in question is DCOP, the second highest rank in the Ghana police. It is like Lt General in the army. Have you ever heard the military make a press release about disciplining a Lt General? Can’t the police also manage their internal affairs with similar decorum and bring honour to their institution? In any case what the officer said is professionally apt. It looks like the IGP received some political backlash from people who don’t know security and he’s trying to make the DCOP a scapegoat. The IGP must stop this. Recently it was the Accra Regional Commander he queried and put it in the media. When the commander explained himself and also copied the media, the IGP punished him by transferring him from the region to the police service workshop. This callous abuse of the power of IGP needs to be checked before the unexpected happens.

Who is that animal called Jeremiah, foolishly equating a civil title to a military rank? What is there to compare between the Military and the civil police? To begin with, the two institutions do not fall under one Ministry. Therefore, it sounds odd to hear some uninformed persons trying desperately to compare the rank structures of the two institutions. Whiles military officers' on retirement are mandated to use their ranks, civil police officers on retirement go by the title Mr. Even, the IGP carries the title Mr. So, on what basis can any reasonable being will even make any attempt to compare and equates titles and ranks of the Military and the civil police. What irks the most is that Jeremiah's attempt to equate an ordinary DCOP title to Lt Gen rank. This is a complete mismatch. Do you know what it takes to become a Lt Gen? Do you have any idea the number of Lt Gens we have in the Ghana Armed Forces, and how many DCOPs do we have in the police service? Do you know who a Lt Gen is? If you claim a DCOP is equivalent to Lt Gen, then, right from tomorrow, let your DCOPs place three stars in front and rear of their official vehicles and drive around. What sort of stupidity is this? Now, to the statement attributed one DCOP Waabu, why, see, what will the Ghana Armed Forces lose if they are not tasked to participate in election duties? In any case, the military does not just wake up and decides to undertake any duty or assignment. Any task is given by the President and the Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, through the Defense Ministry. This fact has to be made clear to people who knows next to nothing about how the military works. Where from the silly notion that the military does not involve in internal security assignments? If what some of the senior police officers are saying today holds water, then the military should cease taking part in internal security duties such as Operations Calm Life, Gongong, Peace Trail, Halt, etc forthwith.
