It is just the do or die nature of our politics that is cheapening our governance. The emphasis has changed from ideological governance to capture of power by any means necessary. We celebrate and reward adversorial politics both the major political parties have kicked out all experienced and self made professionals who dominated their leadership and replaced them with young battle ready firebrands thirsty for power, regardless of work experience outside politics. So we have to admit and sadly accept the sharp decline in independent minded representation within parties compared with the quality of the historic 1996, 2000, 2004 legislatures. Even the political parties have allowed themselves to be taken over by babies with sharp teeth allied to individuals and cabals. The greatest danger is the lose of the nobility to politics and its contribution to the quality of public service.
