The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Finance, has announced the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 cocoa season.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on February 12, 2026, the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, revealed that the new cocoa producer price has been set at GH¢41,392 per tonne, equivalent to GH¢2,587 per 64-kilogram bag.

This represents a reduction in the cocoa farmgate price from GH¢3,625 per bag to GH¢2,587 per bag, following a sustained decline in prices on the world market.

The announcement is part of the government’s efforts to ensure cocoa farmers receive fair and competitive compensation for their produce, amid ongoing reforms in the cocoa sector aimed at increasing value addition, stabilising the industry, and improving farmer incomes.

Dr Forson noted that the revised price reflects both global market conditions and the need to incentivise local farmers, ensuring that Ghana remains a leading cocoa-producing country.

BREAKING: Ghana sets new producer price for remainder of 2025/2026 cocoa season

The 2025/26 cocoa season started in August 2025 with a producer price of GH¢51,660 per tonne, based on 70% of the world market price of US$7,200 per tonne and an exchange rate of GH¢10.25 to the US dollar.

On October 1, 2025, Côte d’Ivoire set a cocoa price 20% higher than Ghana’s, creating a big price difference that could have led to smuggling of Ghanaian cocoa to the neighboring country.

To prevent this, the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) raised Ghana’s cocoa price to GH¢58,000 per tonne, using an exchange rate of GH¢11.5 to the dollar. This made Ghana’s farmgate price competitive and helped stop potential smuggling.

From October 2025, the world cocoa price started to fall. Even with this decline, the Ghana COCOBOD continued selling cocoa until the price dropped below US$6,400 per tonne, which is the cost of getting cocoa from farms to the port.
