The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has banned the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial transport, citing serious safety concerns.
According to the NRSA, the vehicles were not designed for heavy-duty or intercity operations, and the modifications made to them compromise road safety.
The announcement follows a technical committee’s assessment of the vehicles, which found that they were not designed for commercial use.

Speaking at the presentation of the committee’s report, the Director-General of NRSA, Abraham Amaliba, urged the public to avoid using the vehicles for commercial purposes.
He said the Voxy was intended for intra-city travel, but many drivers in the country use it for long-distance operations, affecting balance and overall stability.
“The Voxy is meant for intra-city drivers, but we see them crisscrossing the length and breadth of the country. They are raised, and this affects their balance. We are also being told that the tyres are not suitable for the kind of work they are used for in Ghana,” he said.
Amaliba further noted that the NRSA will consult key stakeholders to finalise the implementation of the committee’s recommendations, expected within the next two weeks.
