After more than three years in the wilderness, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has finally taken a long-awaited step back into competitive football, featuring for SC Freiburg II in their commanding 4-1 victory over Eintracht Trier on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Introduced from the bench, the Ghanaian midfielder wasted little time reminding everyone of his quality, producing an assist in a lively cameo that underlined both his sharpness and determination.

It was a small but symbolic moment—one that carried the weight of years of frustration, pain, and relentless recovery.

Kyereh’s absence dates back to a serious knee injury that required surgery in February 2023. Just when a return seemed within reach, a relapse in the summer of 2024 forced him back to square one, extending an already agonizing spell on the sidelines.

For a player who had been steadily rising, the setback halted what looked like a defining period of his career.

Before the injury, Kyereh had established himself as an important figure for Ghana, playing key roles at both the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Since then, however, he has been missing from the Black Stars setup, his absence keenly felt in midfield.

Now 30, his return offers renewed hope for Freiburg and the Black Stars.
