President John Dramani Mahama is expected to inspect ongoing construction works on the Kasoa-Winneba road on April 23, 2026, as the government intensifies efforts to reduce congestion and improve connectivity along one of Ghana’s busiest coastal routes.

The visit follows recent updates on the broader Cape Coast road dualisation project, particularly the Winneba–Mankessim stretch, which forms a key part of the corridor linking Accra to the Central and Western Regions.

According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, work on Lot 2, the 24-kilometre Winneba–Mankessim dualization, is progressing steadily, with physical completion currently estimated at 25 per cent.

“Works started in December 2025 and are expected to be completed in November 2027,” he stated in a post on X.

He indicated that the contractor has finished site clearing and the construction of major culverts and drainage systems.

Ongoing works include sub-base and base formation, alongside the development of two key interchanges at Apam Junction and Otaw.

The project encompasses a wide range of infrastructure improvements, including vegetation clearing, road formation, asphalt surfacing, drainage systems, pedestrian underpasses, street lighting, bus stops, and road furniture.

The government indicated that the dualisation is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and boost economic activity along the coastal belt.

“When completed, the project will bring relief to motorists and shorten travel time,” Kwakye Ofosu noted.

He added that it will also enhance the smooth flow of traffic between Cape Coast, Takoradi and the national capital, Accra.

The Kasoa-Winneba corridor is widely regarded as a critical economic route, serving commuters, traders, and long-distance travellers, and has long been plagued by congestion and delays.
