I first encountered this when I visited my father's village and had to join half-brothers to go and gather cola-nuts: we had to leave the cottage at about 4 a.m. and set into the bush. We were six and I was 13 years old and the the second eldest. The youngest was years, yet he had his own appropriate sack. It was real tough, but an eye-opener for me, to experience what others were going through.
