A video of the Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee, Samuel Atta Mills, during a committee sitting in May 2026, has sparked widespread reactions online.

In the viral clip, the MP is seen quizzing an official of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School over how much staff pay as rent for two-bedroom bungalows.

“How much do they pay for a bungalow at Mfantsiman in Saltpond?” he asked.

In response, the official stated that the staff of the school pays GH¢30 as rent for occupying the bungalows.

“Saltpond is GH¢30. What a disgrace. Mr Chairman, for the residential rent, we are supposed to recover a total of GH¢3,666. The rent is GH¢30 for two bedrooms. It was just a way of motivating staff,” he said.

Following the response, Samuel Atta Mills, who appeared displeased with the amount, expressed disappointment, stressing that GH¢30 was grossly inadequate.

According to him, the amount does not support proper maintenance or renovation of the buildings.

“What a disgrace. How much are you supposed to collect? Sir, what you collect is not enough to even renovate the place. All these bungalows are like pig pens.

“Have you heard about people paying 10% of their salaries towards rent? Or at the time the ministry introduced that policy, were you not born? Or did you never try to find out?” he said.
