A legal dispute has emerged between the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, over alleged defamatory comments.

Annoh-Dompreh has filed a lawsuit at the High Court, also naming GhanaWeb (Accra) as a defendant for republishing the remarks in question, which were allegedly made on April 28, 2026.

According to court documents filed by his lawyer, Daniel Martey Addo Esq., Annoh-Dompreh claims the statements attributed to the minister are false, malicious, and defamatory, and have caused serious damage to his reputation.

The dispute centres on allegations that the MP, during a visit to a cocoa-growing area, encouraged buyers to misuse government funds by purchasing cocoa from neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire and smuggling it into Ghana in an attempt to undermine the government.

The minister also alleged that intelligence from his office led to the interception of more than 100 bags of cocoa suspected to have been smuggled into the country.

He stated, “I tasked the security officers and brought in the COCOBOD anti-smuggling team. And thanks be to God, we have intercepted more than 100 bags of cocoa that were being transported from Côte d’Ivoire into Ghana.”

Annoh-Dompreh has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and damaging to his long-standing public service record.

He noted that he is currently serving his third term in Parliament, is a former Majority Chief Whip, and chairs the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs of the Pan-African Parliament for the West African Caucus.

In his reliefs, he is seeking a declaration that the statements are defamatory, as well as GH¢20 million in general damages.

He is also asking for an additional GH¢10 million in aggravated and exemplary damages, jointly and severally against the defendants.

He further wants a full retraction and an unqualified apology published with the same prominence as the original statements across all platforms where they appeared.
