I worked at Tamale and the surrounding areas and it was not easy. Some of my students at Ghana Secondary School at Tamale had to cycle about 10 to 15 miles to school. Some came to school and had to take a bath in a Pond used by Cattle, Sheep, and Goats. There was no regular Pipe Borne water and we drank from the same Water Pond as the animals. Electricity was erratic. Transportation to the market was by foot. This was Tamale and one can imagine what goes on in the nearby towns. One could hardly get a straight vehicular journey from anywhere in the South to Tamale, Bolgatanga or Bawku. If the people who have been having Free Education since time immemorial did not want to go to live and work there, there is no reason I will allow my family member to go to work at such a hostile location. The Politicians from there should help open and develop the area and work there instead of choosing to work at the South of the country.

I have lived through that as student at, Lamashegu, Sakasaka and Tamasco. Tamale has always had an acute water problem.

Again, this problem may not be peculiar to that school alone.There are other school in theat part of Ghana with inadequate teachers.Even teachers trained in the North do not want to accept postings to their own old school there.Conditions are not the same everywhere in the country and teachers who accept postings to difficult and in accessible areas should be given incentives which will make life a little comfortable for them.
