Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah
Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah has said that his main objective heading into the men’s 100m final was to secure a medal after a dramatic and closely contested race.
Amoah delivered a strong performance in the final, which ended amid uncertainty following a protest over the results.
Speaking after the race, the Ghanaian athlete explained that his approach throughout the competition was to progress steadily through each round before fighting for a medal place in the final.
“The goal was to make the podium. I wanted to go round by round and then when you get to the finals, it’s who wants it best,” Amoah said.
He described the race as highly competitive and praised the level of competition among the athletes.
“It was a very tight race, a very competitive one and that’s what we all come here for. We like it when our competitors are tough and it brings out the best in us,” he added.
Despite his satisfaction with the performance, Amoah acknowledged that the outcome of the race was still unclear due to a protest lodged after the final.
“It wasn’t too clear. We are waiting for the actual result,” he stated.
The final results are expected to be confirmed after officials conclude deliberations surrounding the protest.
