Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana
The Government of Ghana has announced that the producer price of cocoa will remain unchanged for the 2025/26 Light Crop Season despite a decline in global cocoa prices, a move aimed at protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
According to a circular issued by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), purchases for the 2025/26 Light Crop Season will commence on June 18, 2026.
The circular, signed by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control, Dr Francis Baah, stated that the producer price would remain at GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans and GH¢2,587.00 per bag of 64 kilograms gross.

As a result, a tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags, will continue to attract GH¢41,392.00.
COCOBOD said the decision reflects the government's commitment to supporting cocoa farmers at a time when international cocoa prices are trending downward.
"The decision underscores Government's commitment to protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers, even as international cocoa prices experience a downward trend," the statement said.
According to COCOBOD, maintaining the current producer price is intended to provide certainty and stability for farmers as they prepare for the new light crop season.
The announcement has since been communicated to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), COCOBOD management, relevant ministries, and other stakeholders across the cocoa value chain to facilitate a smooth commencement of cocoa purchases nationwide.
The decision is also expected to be welcomed by cocoa farmers, who have faced rising production costs and market uncertainties in recent years, as it guarantees continued earnings despite fluctuations in international cocoa prices.
