The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of Western Region has reported widespread destruction after severe flooding hit parts of Samreboi and Asankragwa, leading to the collapse of more than 24 buildings.

The disaster was caused by the overflow of the Samre and Tano rivers following hours of heavy rainfall, which submerged several communities and forced many residents to leave their homes.

Speaking to Citi News on June 19, 2026, the Municipal Director of NADMO, Elvis Koffie, explained that the floods had inflicted serious damage on houses, property and livelihoods, though no fatalities have been recorded.

He noted that the continuous rainfall caused both rivers to break their banks, sending floodwaters into nearby low-lying areas and worsening the situation.

The Municipal Director of NADMO confirmed that affected residents have been relocated to safer areas as authorities continue to evaluate the impact of the disaster.

“We have a safe place for them which they are currently living with their families,” he said.

He further stated that NADMO is collaborating with local authorities and other stakeholders to deliver relief support and assist displaced residents.

Emergency response efforts have since been intensified, with ongoing monitoring and assessments to determine the full extent of the damage across the affected communities.
