Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, a son of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has been installed as the new leader of the church.

The installation ceremony took place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, and was attended by church members, elders, and supporters who gathered to witness the transition of leadership following the passing of the renowned inventor and religious leader.

His elevation follows a selection process undertaken by the church's Council of Elders in accordance with the Kristo Asafo Mission's constitution, which provides for a successor to be chosen from among the founder's sons.

The installation comes amid growing tensions within the Kristo Asafo family over the succession of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The process has become the subject of legal disputes, with some family members challenging the decision to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I as the next leader of the mission.

Despite the disagreements, church leaders have maintained that the selection process was conducted in line with the institution's constitution and established traditions.

As the new leader, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I is expected to oversee the spiritual and administrative affairs of the church while advancing the vision and principles laid down by the late founder.

The Kristo Asafo Mission remains one of Ghana's most influential religious organisations, with a longstanding reputation for promoting self-reliance, technological innovation, and spiritual development.
