Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is serving prison sentence - Interior Minister

The Minister for the Interior has confirmed that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is currently serving her prison sentence and is not receiving any special treatment.

The minister's comments follow public speculation about her custody status since her return to Ghana.

Addressing the matter, he dismissed claims that Tamakloe-Attionu was being held outside the country's prison system or was benefiting from privileges unavailable to other inmates.

According to the minister, the former MASLOC boss is being held in accordance with standard prison regulations and is serving her sentence under the same conditions that apply to all convicted persons.

He stressed that the government remains committed to enforcing court decisions without favour and ensuring that all convicts are treated in line with established correctional procedures.

Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by an Accra High Court in 2024 alongside former MASLOC Chief Operations Officer Daniel Axim.

The court found her guilty on multiple charges, including stealing, conspiracy, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state. She was subsequently sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour.

The conviction followed her failure to return to Ghana after travelling to the United States on a court-approved medical trip during the trial.

Following her absence, Ghanaian authorities initiated extradition proceedings to secure her return.

After a lengthy process involving authorities in Ghana and the United States, Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested in the US and extradited to Ghana on June 9, 2026, to begin serving her sentence.
