Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to ignore a journalist when asked about Lionel Messi’s hat-trick in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In the first round of matches, the Argentine star scored three goals against Algeria to spearhead his side to a resounding victory.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo failed to find the back of the net as Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This sparked backlash against the Real Madrid legend, with fans clashing on social media and demanding that Portuguese players provide him with more service to score.

Messi rose to the occasion once again with a brace in Argentina’s win over Austria. Ronaldo responded brilliantly with a brace of his own in Portugal’s 4-0 victory over Uzbekistan.

After the game, journalists asked Ronaldo for his opinion on Messi’s hat-trick. The Portuguese captain grew furious, began walking away, and remarked that he was not perturbed by other players’ performances, insisting that he remains focused on himself.

Ronaldo added that French national team captain Kylian Mbappé had also scored goals, which deserved recognition as well.

“I could not care less about others. Mbappé also scored!” the Portugal captain said in a video shared by Fabrizio Romano on TikTok.

The rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo seems to have been reignited by their performances at the World Cup, as Portugal aim to win the title to honour their captain’s legacy.
