The passengers claimed they were effectively confined at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam
Some stranded passengers on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Accra have taken to social media to express what they describe as the airline's mistreatment of travelers.
Videos circulating online show passengers speaking with police officers and expressing frustration over their ordeal.
According to the passengers, they spent several hours waiting following a delayed and subsequently cancelled flight. They alleged that when they attempted to seek solutions to their situation, the airline called the police on them.
“All of us are stranded at the airport and they said we shouldn't talk about it. We were suffocating, and I was having a panic attack because of my previous experience in June,” one passenger said in a video.
“KLM, never again. Even if you give me a free ticket next time, I won't take it,” the passenger added.
Another traveler said, “We have been sitting there for more than three hours and you just told us to go out. Go out for what reason? You don't treat people like that.”
A third passenger alleged, “I had a delayed flight and instead of giving me another flight, they arrested me, claiming I was causing chaos. We were ten people.”
The passengers claimed they were effectively confined at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam following the disruption.
KLM flight under investigation for allegedly mistreating Accra-bound passengers
One of the stranded passengers, Frieda Yayra Amable, shared her experience on social media.
“I landed in Amsterdam on Friday morning. My flight was delayed by several hours and eventually cancelled. My next flight is scheduled for Sunday and involves travelling through three different countries after already flying from Vancouver to Minneapolis and then from Minneapolis to Amsterdam.
“This means I will have spent five days travelling from Canada to Accra. The Dutch police denied us visas, preventing us from getting an appropriate hotel close to the airport because we are not permitted to travel through two Schengen states.
“As a result, we are stuck at the airport from Friday morning until Sunday at 4:30 p.m. when we finally depart for Paris, then Casablanca, and finally Accra. The Dutch police informed us that we could be denied transit to Paris due to insufficient visa documentation, meaning we might miss our flight on Sunday.
“This situation is disgraceful and intolerable. Several passengers had their flights cancelled on Thursday and then again on Friday,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced the commencement of an investigation into the alleged mistreatment of passengers travelling on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Accra.
In a statement, the GCAA said it had taken note of videos circulating on social media showing stranded travellers expressing frustration over their treatment. The incident involved KLM Flight KL059, which was scheduled to arrive in Accra on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
“The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has noted with concern videos circulating on social media showing stranded passengers expressing dissatisfaction over their alleged treatment by KLM in Amsterdam in connection with Flight KL059,” the statement read.
“As Ghana's aviation regulator, with safety, security and consumer protection as our top priorities, the GCAA has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported tarmac delay and the alleged mistreatment of some passengers.
“The Authority will engage all relevant stakeholders and communicate the outcome of the investigation, where appropriate, in accordance with established regulatory procedures. The GCAA remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of passengers and maintaining high standards of service within the aviation sector.”
The regulator emphasised that the investigation forms part of its mandate to safeguard passenger welfare and indicated that it will engage KLM and other relevant stakeholders as part of the probe.

Ten of those impacted were arrested, detained for three hours, fined, and subsequently released for standing up for their rights. KLM should feel embarrassed about this situation. pic.twitter.com/J1pSi1zV28
