On whose hands? One of the dumbest statements ever made on this platform. This stupid so-called lawyer is an attention seeker from nowhere. Natural disasters happen anywhere they choose. For us, our infrastructure is the problem. The cities and towns have no effective drainage systems, and aside of that we have allowed trash to clog our gutters. Dirt and garbage are normalized everywhere in the country. Dirt has overflowed the land and there are no spaces available. Most natural and artificial drainage spaces have been occupied by unauthorized structures and houses. More rains are coming, and no government apparatus can save stubborn people who build on drainage spaces and wetlands. This is am inflection point for us to stop the lawlessness and the stupidity of building on restricted spaces. Accra is the only capital city with no parks. In case of a major disaster., there is no space to serve as a sanctuary. All lands, including wet lands have been sold or leased.
Accra is probably the only capital city that have structures, including kiosks built on bridges and over concrete gutters. Kumasi and Accra are reknown cities that the people have normalized garbage and occupied all available spaces.
Stubbornly buying lands at drainage spaces are insane and suicidal. Those who stupidly do that have created suicide blood on their own hands.
Now, we're aware of our flaws and have to introduce some form of hygiene into the system and work with the government to remove garbage out of the city to unclog our drainage systems.
All the money from our resources must be directed to environmental infrastructure and roads, otherwise we boast of nothing.

Why did the Minister of Finance suspend the project? If the project had not been suspended probably these deaths would not have occurred. What is fiscal control when the World Bank has provided funds to solve an annual problem. The Minister of Finance is partly to blame for this unfortunate situation. Every project that the World Bank funds is of critical national importance and is meant to solve a problem. Mover-over, it was approved by Parliament how can one person just suspend or refuse to allow draw downs to be made from project funds. He needs to explain to Ghanaian why he took this decision.

Any sensible Ghanaian should accept that this is a leadership failure to enforce laws. All wetlands are build on, they watch buildings sprout on waterways, they sell all lands without a human brain to plan adequate drainage systems. Assemblies see refuse heaps all over town and do nothing. Yes, citizens are indiscipline, SHOULD THEY BE, WHEN THEY KNOW NOTHING WILL BE DONE TO THEM?

As Nana Aba Anamoah rightfully pointed out, response to the floods "follow the same script" each year! A bag of rice here, cooking oil there courtesy of NADMO but nothing with regard to a comprehensive, integrated approach involving re-engineering, urban planning, environmental policing, and other enforcement activities etc. There have been enough discussion on this very forum, at least, during the past decade. There was, indeed, no need for the President to fly and "survey" the areas of catasrophic damage. It's the same script every year! NPP or NDC, no difference! In case, the President hasn't noticed and read it, we will refer to the open media publication by:

Land title is difficult to acquire. And for building permit is like begging the devil to be a saint. First and foremost all must produce permit or pay a fine. From the proceeds we can use for lasting solution such water holding sites, dredging the waterways.

Attempts have been made to arrest the situation but not enough to solve the problem.At times things have to hit rock bottom for people to wake up and this is it.When houses and structures in water ways are pulled down now, no one including journalist will dare to speak against it.The President has directed that the military get involved in doing what civilians have failed to do.We wait to see the response of irresponsible Ghanaians. God help Ghana.

Anyone who has ever lived in Accra, anyone who has ever held a position in local government in the Accra-Tema metropolitan area, anyone who has ever held a responsible post in the greater Accra chieftaincy hierarchy, anyone who has held an MP position and anyone who has served in the capacity as head of state, prime minister or president of Ghana is responsible for the failures that has culminated in the disaster we see happening before our eyes.

A child who starts stealing from his/her parents and has been cautioned and advised to stop but continues to steal into adult age will eventually steal from someone who might not look kindly on the theft. The thieving child who failed to heed to parental guidance may suffer consequences of his/her actions in due time.

People in Ghana, especially those claiming to be journalists, social media watchdogs, practicing lawyers and law school graduates yet to pass GBA examination but feel the need to offer legal advice may recall vividly where they were and the actions they took when under the late J. J. Rawlings, the indisciplined and lawbreakers at the makola market were forced to clear the streets adjacent to makola market. Those indisciplined bunch came back to occupy the streets because they were emboldened by the lack of foresight need by the rest of society to know that the society cannot nurture acts of disdain for laws of government no matter the level of infraction.

It is the indiscipline within the Ghanaian society and the stepwise dismissive attitudes to adherence of the laws of the country that has brought us to where we are. It all starts when people knowingly encroach of community zones and we remain mute or look away because we believe those small actions of law breakers do not affect our persons.

It is in that state of ignorance and failures to be each others brother's keeper that gave room for idiots with money to buy lands they should not and for corrupt people to sell lands they should not. It is officials at the lands commission and the politically-connected people who have no regard for the laws of the land who bribe their way into getting land development permits they should not have received. It is each one of us who helplessly look on while evil reign supreme on our land.

The blood of our brothers and sisters crying under our feet is on our hands; none of us are exempted from the crime against humanity.
