Yutong bus gutted by fire on Mankessim-Accra Highway

A Yutong bus has been completely destroyed by fire on the Mankessim-Accra Highway after an electrical fault reportedly sparked the blaze.

According to a post shared on the official Facebook page of the Ghana National Fire Service on July 8, 2026, firefighters responded swiftly to a distress call it received about the incident.

The Officer-in-Charge directed the crew to deploy hoses for firefighting, and the fire was successfully contained.

"A distress call was received at 0434 hours reporting a vehicular fire involving a Yutong bus on the Mankessim-Accra Highway. The crew was mobilized immediately and arrived at the scene at 0440 hours to find the bus fully engulfed in flames, after unsuccessful attempts by passengers and passers-by to extinguish it", it stated.

It said the blaze, which was caused by an electrical fault destroyed the entire bus and the belongings of some passengers.

"The fire, attributed to an electrical fault, completely destroyed the bus, passengers’ belongings, and approximately twenty crates of drinks. Some passengers' luggage and personal effects were salvaged from the vehicle", the post stated.

The crew ensured the scene was safe before returning to the station.
