Yaw Adomako Baafi is the NPP's Former Communications Director
A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Yaw Adomako Baafi, has criticised the recently passed Tribunals Bill, 2026, arguing that it revives painful memories of one of Ghana's darkest periods under the country's tribunal system.
Speaking in an interview on UTV's Adekye Nsroma programme, and sighted by GhanaWeb on July 20, 2026, Adomako Baafi said the legislation has stirred emotions among many Ghanaians who lived through the era of public executions and political persecution.

According to him, the tribunal system left a lasting scar on many families, with hundreds of people reportedly losing their lives.
"Tribunals Bill evokes memories of pain," he said.
He referenced reports published by veteran journalist Kwasi Pratt, claiming that the tribunal era claimed hundreds of lives.
"According to Kwasi Pratt's newspaper, over 300 people were killed during that time," he stated.
Adomako Baafi also reflected on the overthrow of the Progress Party government, suggesting that former Head of State, Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, acted out of concern for the country's direction.
"Acheampong was brave because he was close to Busia, so he got the blueprint from him," he said.
The former NPP communications director further argued that the tribunal system created long-lasting hardship for many Ghanaian families.
"There have been a lot of orphans because of the tribunal system," he said.
He contrasted that period with what he described as efforts by the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor to foster national unity through reconciliation.
"Kuffour and the NPP brought national reconciliation so that it would placate and quell people's anger and bring unity," he stated.
Parliament recently passed the Tribunal Bill, which seeks to establish tribunals as part of Ghana's judicial system.
