Majority of Ghanaians support reintroduction of tribunals

Nearly two-thirds of Ghanaian voters are in favour of the government’s plan to reintroduce tribunals, according to a new survey by Global InfoAnalytics.

The poll, released by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, on Facebook on Monday, July 27, 2026, found that 63% of respondents support the establishment of tribunals.

Meanwhile, 19% disagreed with the proposal, while 17% said they were undecided.

The survey follows Parliament’s approval of the Tribunals Bill, 2026, on July 16, after the legislation successfully passed its third reading.

The bill is designed to revive tribunals within Ghana’s judicial system under a new legal framework intended to improve the delivery of justice and broaden access to legal redress.

It also gives effect to Article 126 of the 1992 Constitution, which provides for tribunals but has not been fully implemented over the years.

Under the new law, the tribunals will operate alongside the regular courts and will be subject to constitutional safeguards, oversight and due process requirements.

The bill was passed after the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, secured Parliament’s approval to waive the mandatory one-day waiting period between the consideration stage and the third reading.

Although the legislation has cleared Parliament, it continues to divide opinion.

The Minority Caucus argued that the country’s existing courts should instead be strengthened through reforms and increased investment rather than creating a new tribunal system.
