It seems the Committee did not do justice to some of the salient issues we want amended. Extension of the presidential term limit is not important at this material time. If a government can't achieve much in 4 years, I equally do not see it achieving anything in five years. This proposal should be sent for a referendum. The 4-year term limit is enough. US and others have 4 years, and they're able to achieve much. We want the indemnity clause granting the president immunity for 3 years. removed. In other jurisdictions, we even see presidents and prime ministers taken to court. Our leaders are not better than them. This nonsense of an indemnity clause should be expunged from our constitution, so that every president will be more accountable to the people. We also want the appointing powers of the president to be curtailed. The president should not be the one appointing almost everybody. Our Civil and public services have been infiltrated by politics. Now, appointments are based on political affiliation or lineage and not merit, and this is a dangerous precedent. Our local government system needs to be retooled. The current system is porous and does not promote development at all. Metro/Mun/District Assemblies are largely overdependent on the District Assembly Common Fund for their development needs. In most cases, these funds are not even used for the intended purpose. You have the MMDCEs and their coordinating directors and finance officers conniving to steal the funds.
