Renowned broadcast journalist Omanhene Kwabena Asante has warned the John Dramani Mahama-led government that it could face serious consequences if it fails to address alleged acts of corruption within the administration.

Speaking on Asempa FM on August 19, 2026, he said claims by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the current administration had not been hit by major scandals did not reflect the realities on the ground.

“When I hear the NDC readily and quickly saying that there are no major scandals, a lot of things are happening. President Mahama will be amazed by the corruptible acts in this administration,” he said.

Kwabena Asante argued that the government’s anti-corruption credentials had already been weakened by decisions taken by Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, to discontinue some criminal cases initiated under the previous administration.

He said the use of nolle prosequi to discontinue some of the cases had raised questions about the government’s commitment to its anti-corruption agenda, particularly because the same administration was pursuing prosecutions against political opponents over what he described as similar issues.

“The NDC’s fight against corruption was weakened when the Attorney-General filed nolle prosequi in some cases being investigated by the previous administration. That has weakened their base, and this same government that has discontinued cases is now prosecuting cases of political opponents in court on almost the same issues,” he noted.

Kwabena Asante also cautioned the government against assuming that political power would shield its members from accountability, stressing that public officials would ultimately be judged by their conduct in office.

“They will be judged accordingly. They should look beyond the physical stewardship; there is a spiritual stewardship. There is a day coming when you will answer for all your deeds,” he said.

He further suggested that the government’s assessment of its record should go beyond the absence of what it considers major scandals, arguing that alleged wrongdoing within the administration must also be taken seriously.
