‘Recruits with forged WASSCE results will be red-listed’ – Muntaka

Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has disclosed that some recruits in security services training schools have been dismissed after verification revealed that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results they presented for recruitment had been forged or altered.

According to him, the affected recruits will be placed on a security-sector “red list” to prevent them from gaining admission into any security service in the future.

He said the decision forms part of measures to protect the integrity of recruitment into the country’s security agencies and ensure that only qualified applicants are admitted.

Speaking in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Muntaka expressed concern over what he described as a worrying trend of applicants presenting fraudulent academic documents to secure opportunities in the security services.

“As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have altered” their results, he stated.

Muntaka noted that the issue affects recruitment into various security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and the Armed Forces.

He questioned how prospective recruits could deliberately falsify their academic records in an attempt to secure employment in institutions responsible for enforcing the law and protecting the country.

Muntaka said applicants found to have deliberately defrauded the system could also face prosecution, stressing that such conduct should attract serious consequences.

He further argued that individuals who falsify their qualifications to gain entry into the security services demonstrate a level of indiscipline that should not be tolerated within the security sector.

According to him, the government’s decision to red-list such individuals is intended to ensure that those who abuse the recruitment process do not get another opportunity to join any security service.

He said the development should also serve as a warning to young people against resorting to fraudulent means to secure employment opportunities.
