It is surprising how today, the once proud, honorable and dignified characteristics of the Ghanaian, would so easily lean towards sympathising and encouraging corruption, stupidity and thievery, as exemplified by comments to this brazen attempt by Akua Donkor to steal another Ghanaians property.

It is evident by the written comments of some contributors to this platform that they are in some way, literate. It is therefore surprising - if not strange, that they would condone to the criminal fantasies and wiles of a totally illiterate woman who cannot understand the basic principles of vehicle ownership - or for that matter the legal ownership of anything in a modern civilized and enlightened society. It is people like this, with confused backward logic - if we can refer to it as such, who become armed robbers. They cant understand why and how other people have something which they dont have, so in their befuddled and logic-deficient mind, they can forcibly take away that whatever it is, from the one who worked hard to acquire it. Simply put, for them the end justifies the means and any means is justifiable so long as there is a desired end.

In the simplistic narrow-minded world of this woman and her supporters on Ghanaweb, if someone gives you something to use for a particular purpose, that thing, without question or agreement, becomes yours after the exercise has been completed. This is unalloyed stone-age logic.

My problem with Nduom is how he himself could have stooped so low as to associate with such a person in the first place. If he remotely anticipated to benefit any kind of political mileage from affiliating with this woman during the campaign period then even his credentials as an astute businessman is brought into serious doubt. Who in the PPP took that decision? Was it a collective democratic choice of the Party or an authoritarian diktat? When I first heard that he had taken the woman on board his campaign team, I could not help but wonder what he was up to.

This singular act of abominable indiscretion has added to the further erosion of his image and the implications have added a blight on his future political ambitions. He has exposed himself as a person lacking the ability to reason sensibly, seriously and cogently in the political terrain.

I can ignore Nduom and as a result, refuse to vote for the PPP, but I cannot ignore the sad spectacle of educated Ghanaians openly and hapily supporting crime and criminals. I guess it is only a symptom of the evolving psychosis of indiscipline and disorder that Rawlings imposed and bequeathed upon our once great nation. It is an NDC thing.

The question I have for this stupid woman is this- What written agreement emboldens you to keep the vehicle ? I am sure there is none. This is where you need the long reach of Ghana's judiciary, coupled with law enforcement to send a message to Ghanaians from all walks of life that our actions are bounded by the rule of law.

What is really being revealed here is the behind-the-scenes "campaigning" tradition, what really goes on during elections in Ghana. Bribes, gifts whatever you want to call it are given out like free salt by politicians. Mahama went about giving Chiefs, Imams SUV's like those expensive vehicles grow on trees. NDC student activists also got smaller cars, laptops and other gifts. NPP when it was in power also did its thing. Alan "Cash" infamously went about giving wads of cash to voters at the NPP Congress. When he was in CPP, the PPP leader was known for feeding congress delegates, paying them sums of money, and going about from constituency to constituency giving money to executives like Father Christmas in June. And all this business of financial inducement has now come to be considered the best, the most desirable, the most noble in leadership qualities in Ghana.

The spectacle of disputes and drama after elections over "campaign" gifts is not new. Opesika Aggudey, a former CPP flagbearer, sent his thugs to forcefully retrieve furniture, office equipment and a TV set that he had given to CPP after he lost miserably in the primaries!

Neither a lender nor a borrower be! (Polonius in Act I, Scene 3 of William Shakespeare's Hamlet). Let the campaign tactics of Ghana's "free and fair" elections change now!
