Russia may be a bully, but the US is the world's number one bully. Any weak country that does not bow to the US is a potential candidate for US aggression. Grenada, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and now Syria.The list is endless. The US is not bound by International Law. Ask yourself; how many years has the US not been involved in one war or another since World War II? The US thrives on war.

I am not an apologist for Russia but it is fair to say that it is the only country in the world that has the guts to stand up to the US bully. The US does not want to attack or invade an opponent that can fight back. In 1990, Saddam Hussein invaded and claimed to annex Kuwait. The US assembled a huge army to evict him by force. Fast forward to 2014. The US alleges that Russia has annexed Crimea. What does President Obama say? The military option is off the table.

News is now accessible from varied sources, thanks to the internet. Let us not restrict ourselves to the mainstream western media as the only source of news.

Let me remind all the NPP members the argument Nana Akufo-Addo made at the party’s Congress in Sunyani in 1998 in his opposition to giving candidate John Agyekum Kufuor the second chance after losing to Rawlings in 1996. Here was Nana Akufo: “I call on members of the party [NPP] to embrace change in leadership of the party. Such changes are far from harming the fortunes of the party. Change improves the chances of political parties as a new face eventually means new ideas, new methods and new strategies…any candidate elected as the NPP's flag-bearer has already secured 30% of the total valid votes. Failure to garner the remaining 20% plus 1 means the candidate has failed, and therefore must be changed” (ref: Ghana Daily Graphic, October 8, 1998). If John Kufuor back then did not deserve to be nominated for the second consecutive time, why is it okay now for Nana Akufo-Addo to seek the party’s nomination the third consecutive time, having led NPP to two painful electoral defeats in 2008 and 2012? The Annual Democracy Lecture reminds all Ghanaians yearly of the fragility of our democracy and provides an opportunity to dialogue on the ways that together, we can sustain and deepen our democracy. For the 2013 Annual Democracy Lecture, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II graced the occasion

as the guest speaker. Also present were other dignitaries including the Chairman for the occasion His Grace Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle, His Excellency former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, flag bearers of the CPP and NPP in the 2012 election, Representatives of Political Parties, Chiefs, Heads of Institutions, Security Services, Religious Bodies and Civil Society GroupsAccording to Otumfuo, serial callers are becoming a nuisance in our democratic dispensation and if they are not checked, they would stifle our political discourse and thus threaten the survival of our democracy.
