In any civilized and democratic country, the Police would have moved in and retrieved the car from Ademola's house and in all probability had arrested him for carjacking or stolen vehicle or official oppression for using his political connection to the ruling party to intimidate a JOE BLOW citizen and this foolish Nigerian turned Ndc Party chairman had the audacity to tell Ghanaians on radio that he was being a good Samaritan for not reporting the accident to the Police.
A good Samaritan would not have impounded the truck fron this poor driver and demanded GHc2000 from this poor driver who is not the owner of the truck but is a hired driver. How can Ademola Coker impounds somebody's car and made the poor driver hire a taxi to take some of the instruments from the truck for Sunday church service andcall hhimself a good Samaritan?
The useless Ghana Police even after getting this information could not force or at the minimum compel Ademola to release the truck to the rightful owner.
What a sad country we live in.

My question to the so called President Mahama is What happened to Carl Wilson and Segbefia for establishing a car robery syndicate that seized many cars at gun point? The only answer is NOTHING. Even Segbefia has since been promoted. The syndicate was operated from the castle and the beneficiaries were all NDC members including Coker. That is why Ademola Coker was not arrested. In my part of USA I live, it is just a gentleman's agreement if a fellow does not want you to call the police for some reasons.
What you do is to ask for his driver's license,the address and phone number, and write them down. Agree with him when and where he wants to fix the car.
OR
he could ask you to fix it with any mechanic and he will refund the bill.
OR
Some people can agree on a reasonable amount and he pays you to fix it.
However, it comes with a risk. Better you call the police and your Insurance to deal with that.
This is my part of USA I live. I don't think you can impound (seize by legal right) someone's car in the U.S

But none of them has the right to impound the others vehicle. Only the Police can do that. So for a high political office holder to do something like that is scandalous and reminds us of the state of lawlessness in Ghana. What was he thinking? That the man would abscond?
He could have called the Police and still have it settled privately, as is part of the norm in Ghana. His action was thoughtless.

Everyone in government does what he or she likes from Victoria Hammah to Barton Oduro, Betty Mould, the ministry of finance, bank of ghana; they all do what they like and get away with it. From disobeying presidential orders to not enforcing decisions by the high courts; till now the attorney general has not been able to collect our monies back from woyome despite Martin Amidu's victories in court for Ghana.

Sorry, the driver was on his way to Aburi where he live and did report it to the Police the next day. There was no mutual agreement between the two but when Ademola started shouting "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM"? and then revealed that he was Ademola Coker, the Ndc chairman of Greater Accra region, the driver was intimidated.
I listened to the poor driver on the radio and he sounded intimidated and said so.
First, it is not up to Ademola to determine who was at fault in this accident.
Second, Ademola said he was trying to be a good Samaritan and that is why he did not call Police. With the spate of gruesome accidents on our roads with people being killed daily through car accidents, Ademola should not be aiding and abetting by shielding "bad" drivers if he thought the driver is a careless one as he said on the radio.
Third, a good Samaritan will not impound anybody's car and demand two thousand cedis for scratches on a car door.

In a case of minor accidents where there are no personal injuries the police do not have to be involved it is treated as a civil case rather organisations that need to be notified are the insurance companies. Correct me if I'm wrong, except the motoring laws of Ghana are fundamentally different from that of where I reside.
so where there is a gentlemen's agreement between the parties that's where it ends.
The driver of the KIA truck is in breach of the trust Ade Coker imposed in him.

Ghanaba, you are right on the first part of your submission. In accidents where there is no injuries, the parties exchange insurance information and report it to their insurance companies to be be sorted out as to who is at fault.
In cases of real minor damage, the individuals can even decide to settle on the spot without involving their insurance companies with cash changing hands.
Where Ademola went wrong was intimidating the poor driver by throwing his weight around about who he was. There was no agreement. The guy was intimidated to follow Ademola to his house. If you listen to Ademola and the other driver on the radio, there was no agreement by the guy to give up his truck, he was forced to leave his truck at Ademola's house. That is not what is called mutual agreement.
The guy would not have reported the case to Police the next day if there was a mutual agreement.

The frustration driving Ghanaians today never permit them to way situations very carefully before commenting foolishly.
Many Ghanaians generally including those living in the village are aware that when there is accident at any moment, there is always a need for coperation to solve the problem. That means an agreement between those parties in question. In this regard what makes Ade Coker useless, is it not that he is useful if hatred is not driving those abusing him.
I am a driver and most times we believe there could be a way to solve problems when there is accident since sometimes people plead for that, than inviting the police who will waste time and even bring in bribery issues of which you all know about.
Where has Coker did evil that he deserves all this reaction of political hatred. How can Ghana move forward if we continue with this kind of hatred. Keeping the vehicle in his house is a normal gurantee you will also like to do if you are a driver in a situation at stake. Stop cursing yourselves with your comments daily.

I listened to both Ademola and the driver on Adom fm and the driver did not admit to paying him any money. The driver was intimidated to give his truck up.
Do you know what is called null and void contracts? If you intimidate somebody to agree to something, such contracts are null and void and cannot be enforced and that is what Ademola did.

In US, if two cars are involved in accident and as long as there is no injury to a third party or destruction of third party's property, those involved in the accident can choose to settle the matter without involving the police. You cannot seize anybody's car anywhere in USA under any circumstances. You have to call the Police even in the case you suspect the driver of being drunk. You can prevent them from driving by blocking them or taking their car keys but you cannot take their cars to your house, that will be classified as stealing.
Don't start telling lies about USA. Where in USA do you live that will allow you to impound somebody's car because he isin an aaccident with you? Stop that village behavior.
