It is not whether someone is equal to some one. Nkrumah was not equal to any of his opponents. JJ was not equal to Adu Boahen. Kuffour was not equal to Mills. Mahama was not equal to Nana Addo. But the problem is that those elected had something their so called "more qualified" rivals did not have. The PARTY. Ndoum can chose to open single room Banks in all villages, but he can't muster more than 1% of popular vote. He has no vehicle with which to market himself. He feels too pompous to humble himself under the discipline of the two political parties. So he jumps from one place to another, creating parties like one man churches that he can control, with no accountability to any body. He can never win any election with his one man church like party.
