The Charlewote language you are using was just a quote of Ayariga,the journalist did not do anything wrong,he quoted his exact words.

That said,I think the journalist trying to make him say she was his girlfriend was not professional,if the man did not want to say directly what the relationship was just leave him alone and go find out the meaning of "she was my old charlewote"
Ayariga should not have also said that,in our culture we don't say such things,if there was any relationship,it was not a marriage for him to publicly say that.
