President-elect Nana Akufo Addo has criticised supporters and sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who engaged in lawlessness after the victory of the party in the 2016 elections.

“I do recognise that there have been some instances of misconduct and altercations that should never have happened. Such behaviour is unbecoming of us,” he indicated during a speech at the Thanksgiving Service of the party, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 18.

Celebrations greeting the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the December 7 polls have been characterised by violence in some parts of the country.

This was marked by the vandalism and seizure of public property including tollbooths and public toilets with a few people incurring gunshot wounds in the Central Region.

As of Friday, December 16, police said they had arrested a total of 12 culprits nationwide.

Mr Akufo-Addo, who was not enthused about the development, admonished members of the public to cease such behaviour and urged victims of the lawlessness to forgive as the country forges in unity for development towards the future.

“I call on all Ghanaians to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity towards one another and to forgive anyone who may have wronged or hurt you. Remember, the battle is the Lord’s,” he urged.
