Whatever the constraints, more candidates tend to benefit from the 4yr SS school system.
That said, training and retaining competent teachers should be a focus of the education ministry. Using teachers and nurses as political pawns is self defeatist and retrogressive as we have observed with many governments.
Wherever health and educational manpower have been motivated and not denigrated, society and the economy flourishes. Find out if you wish to!

Look if the country can re-structure our primary and JSS well, we don't need SHS 4 yrs. It IS sad that most schools don't have science labs ,NO PROPER TEACHING AIDS ,PROPER COMPUTER LABS ETC. YET EXPECTING STUDENTS TO DO WELL. Please lets look at the basics and the upper will be okay. No need 4 years wasting of time, energy and resources which could be used at the basics. Most of my university Lecturers were 22yr old Indians with masters degrees and had full command of their courses. Why waste the children youthful years instead of grooming them well during their childhood. Please, give us a break Mr block headed Man. It is not the extra one year that matters but the basic levels.

Please, it is time we stop this ding-dong and political see-saw with our educational system.it is time our policy makers come to the knowledge that the principal factor in improving education is not the number of years but considering the main factor or element in education which comes under various names as teacher, master tutor, lecturer etc.
Just as the entrepreneur is very essential to business and production so is the teacher to education.
Can you imagine those who have studied economics, accounting, English language,French just to mention a few are paid well with other juicy service conditions attached, the teacher is treated as a none-entity. No allowances, no housing attachments, no transport allowances no overtimes etc.So the teacher has to consider his profession as an avocation instead of vocation and look for other things to do. The ladies get involved in trading even practising it in their various schools. their men folk resort to extra classes etc. Who is to blame? When other civil servants go on courses home and abroad stipends with book allowances are paid; the teacher receives only his salary, despite the fact that educational expenditure has come to be added to the already deficit budget vis-à-vis the salary of a teacher. Medical personnel, electricity employees, just to mention a few have treatment for their families free of charge and power subsidy allowance but a teacher cannot have even 1 child educated for free.
We can increase SHS to 5 years or more but if the teacher continues to be neglected and forgotten. it would not be better!

I support the 4 years for the SHS, past records shows that students who completed the 4 years perform better academically than those with the 3 years.

(3).The idea is not the best option, does not indicate a clear problem why the "Reverse to 4 yrs"and therefore, retrograde/retrogressive and therefore, Education Consultancy Deficient.(4).It depicts a Country reeling in Confusion within different government, governance, and intellectually Corrupted Swings of an otherwise simple permanentAcademic Calendar to the whims of a Political Party which had won the election, to show to the outgoing Party "where power lies", to disturb the academic welfare of Minors(Student), rather than finding a well thought through lasting Solution to bring sanity for the good of all and Sundry.(5)Just b'cos authorities have the power to make changes,however Silly, and no one would Challenge anything in our part of the World, where Parents have no say on the educational welfare of their Children, and decision is prone to the Bosses whims.Therefore, any untowardness decision goes.(6)That means,if the govt in power is not retained in the next election, the new govt comes with the aim to Reversed the Academic Calendar to where it was fixed before the election was lost!.Is that the legacy we want to leave the Youth! Education Consultant indeed!.I think another way to get 4 years in 3 yrs,if need be, is: (1).To extend the School hours by an hour or, hour and half(1or1.5).That means, School can Start an hour earlier.(2) Or, close an hour late from former time (1hour extra).(3)School can Start an hour earlier and close 30 minutes late pre election time(1.5 hours extra).
I think this schedule do not create continued litigation and Confusion of 3or4 years politicized Academic Calendar Saga,and put to rest differences between the two major Political Parties on SHS Academic Calendar.The President-elect should not listen to short lived advice from so-called Education Consultant which can not Stand the test of time,in my personal opinion.Education Consultant indeed!.

Do you realise the chaos that was wrought when the NPP decided during the Kufour admin to extend SHS to 4 years? Headteachers refused to take on new students unless proper provision was made for them. Do you want us to go back to the mayhem?

Let us stop playing politics with our education system. The best thing would be for the NPP govt to continue the reforms begun by the NDC, and build on these to improve the quality of education and accessibility.

One fact remains clear,the standards are falling and I personally pray we even go back to the form5 and sixth form era after all there are no jobs now for them to do even after the university so why rush them out of school. Let keep them in the classroom to control the unemployment situation till we become moderately industrialized.

The big problem in Ghana is too much book long so called professors adding syllables every 3 years or so. Now if students are not getting it why not reduce the syllables. Even some parts in Asia is 10 years up to SHS. We have the same system like Japan. If you are looking at the 4 year High school in USA then I beg reduce the JHS by 1 year. Is so sad and kind of political stupidity the way politicians and Education consultants want to pay with Ghanaian education. So if Japan and many countries like US are using 12 years, you think Ghana using 13 years will change something ? The problem is the educational system is messed up, the method of teaching and in fact many teachers are not qualified and don't want to be in the class.
If you want take your Ghanaian SSS syllables to USA especially General Science since that was my field,you will realize that most of the times we are taught are first 2 years of the American College syllables.
I happened to get both USA and Ghana university education. At level 200 in UCC my transcript compared to the USA Biology standard I had already finished the program. All I did was just American studies and Psychology.
Officer our education system is just loaded. Teach us initiative learning and stop the barba dea ( Chew pour pass and forget).
Most teachers especially in the Universities are proud when students can't answer their questions, bring that here USA and see if you will have a job.
U don't need to add years but you need to make the existing system better. Especially the Sciences,everything was book no must practicals. Get more mannequin for Life Sciences, put more money in Chemistry(no enough chemicals for practice) These are practical things and students easily get the concept and it stays with them.
The problem is your system. I have seen poor performing Ghanaian students shining here Mr. CEO so change your system not adding years. We have overloaded syllables yet our brains can't match Japanese or American, not because they are better but because they have a better system.
Another big problem is most of our teachers were not the very good students in at the SSS level.If your grades were not good they say go to Training College.( Some of the Training College guys are very good don't get me wrong but the majority were not). In US people teach because is their passion and they must be good at it. My Uncle is a Professor of Biochemistry at Penn State Med School.
I hope Nana will not make that mistake,when we do that is like we as a country has no sense of purpose. Kuffor changes it and Atta Mills changes then Nana, aden ye ye nkwadaa anaa.

Do u know your SSS Science you teach is USA first 2 years in University syllables. When I studied in U.S. everything they taught me, I had learnt in Ghana at SSS and my US classmates didn't know that at SSS. Tell me if Ghana is better than U.S. by any standard. At level 200 Biological Sciences UCC was Senior year( Level 400) here UMW.We lack practical , theory we are very good. How many of our professor especially sciences are doing researches even though they are given research allowances. Most have studied abroad but u come home and allow us to go through the same pain while you drive big cars. Ghana has no visionaries, that is the problem.
