At least you know that constitutionally a former President is offered or given a house when he/she leaves office as part of retirement benefits. Most of the supporters either do not know this or they just blatantly want to disgrace Mahama. Your problem with Mahama's request to keeping the house he occupies as part of the benefits package instead of accepting a new house is because it is labeled state house for vice presidents, I suppose, but you would agree that the state owes the former President a retirement house as stipulated by parliament policy.
I believe the reason for Mahama's preference for the house he has lived in for about 10 years over a new one is, comfort and convenience in not going through with packing and moving after 10 years of living in that house.
Is this request of convenience difficult to grant to a former President?
Mr Kufuor supports Mahama's request because for Kufuor to be living in his private house as Presdent, he requested for renovation of his residence to presidential quality standard at the expense of the state. This was because he did not want to live in the Osu Castle as Rawlings and Atta Mills did. His request was graned amicably. When he left office he was offered Presidential style housing at Trasacco, a gated security site, which he turned down because he was not consulted about the selection of the house and the site. The committee obliged and asked Kufuor to choose a site and a style of building of his preference for a house to be built for him. The past government even compromised to block a public street in front of Kufuor's residence and declared the area security zone to protect his life. I know Nana Addo would have no qualms about Mahama's request but for the sake of the Osafo Marfo and likes, and the irrational thinking supporters, Nana Addo is mute. I know they are going to insult me because they cannot handle the truth. But I am glad that Mahama has rescinded his request to quiet those who want to ridicule him.
I don't know why some people compare Obetseby Lamptey's case to this one. Obetseby Lamptey was not a president who qualified to be given a retirement housing package. He occupied the bungalow as minister and paid subsidized rent payments. When Kufuor's administration was leaving office several state lands and bungalows were sold to themselves at very low prices. The new government challenged them on immoral ethic grounds to return the sold properties to the states. Some returned theirs, including Chief Justice, Georgina Wood, but Obetseby Lamptey had no shame and went to court to defend his purchase, that government properties were sold and he bought the bungalow as a private citizen. How can you compare the immoral acts of this kind, supported by Osafo Marfo and colleagues, then, to Mahama's legitimate retirement benefits case. His only wrong doing is that he has requested to keep the house he has lived in for 10 years instead of taking a new one that may cost more money. And why wouldn't Bawumea take the former Vice President's house?

PLEASE, REFER TO ARTICLE 68 CLAUSE 2 OF GHANA 1992 CONSTITUTION, BELOW:
(2) The President shall not, on leaving office as President, hold any office of profit or emolument, except with the permission of Parliament, in any establishment, either directly or indirectly, other than that of the State.
(3) The President shall receive such salary, allowances and facilities as may be prescribed by Parliament on the recommendations of the committee referred to in article 71 of this Constitution.
(4) On leaving office, the President shall receive a gratuity in addition to pension, equivalent to his salary and other allowances and facilities prescribed by Parliament in accordance with clause (3) of this article.
(5) The salary, allowances, facilities, pensions and gratuity referred to in clauses (3) and (4) shall be exempt from tax.
