If you went to Kejetia or Nima market to buy any food items in bulk somewhere within the heart of the market, how do you get the stuff to the street to catch a cab or trotro?Are you willing to carry the 40-50 pound item you just bought yourself or you would rather pay someone male or female to carry it? In the same vein, the Night Soil Men,popularly called ‘Kru Nyo’ or ‘Kru Ni’ (men who carried human excreta in buckets on their heads)business withered away with the advent of sewage systems (WC) in our homes. Much the same way, Kayayo business will go away on its own, when we build modern supermarkets to replace the traditional markets. Until then, all we can do is to feel pathetic about the situation.
